Liverpool Land Hugo Ekitike in £79M Deal, Summer Spending Nears £300M

Liverpool are cooking this summer and the latest addition to the fire is Hugo Ekitike!

The Reds have agreed a £79 million deal with Eintracht Frankfurt, shelling out £69M up front with another £10M in add-ons, securing one of Europe’s most exciting young strikers.

After hitting a wall with Alexander Isak, Liverpool shifted gears and accelerated talks for Ekitike last week. The 23-year-old Frenchman lit up the Bundesliga last season with 22 goals and 12 assists, helping Frankfurt secure Champions League football.

He’s got flair, intelligence, and lethal finishing the perfect fit for Arne Slot’s high-octane system.

The transfer fee comes in at €91M, just shy of the €100M release clause in his contract. Ekitike’s deal is for six years, and he’s set to fly out later this week to join the squad on their pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Japan.

First, he completes his medical in the UK on Tuesday, with Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes staying back to get the final pieces done.

This signing marks Liverpool’s seventh of a blockbuster window, following Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, and Freddie Woodman.

Total spend? Nearly £300M. And with clubs sniffing around the likes of Luis Diaz Bayern’s €67.5M bid didn’t even make the Reds flinch Liverpool say no to Bayern it’s clear Liverpool are building, not breaking.

Ekitike wanted Liverpool. Liverpool wanted Ekitike. And now, the deal’s done.
