Ruben Amorim says he would be “really pleased” if Kobbie Mainoo comes to him to talk about a possible loan move away from Manchester United.
Mainoo has not started any Premier League games under Amorim this season, with his only start coming in the Carabao Cup loss at Grimsby. Amorim said he has not spoken to Mainoo about a loan yet, but is open to the conversation and wants his players to feel happy and supported.
Amorim also responded to criticism from former United players, including Paul Scholes. He said the main problem is not winning enough, and that the team should have more points. Amorim added that ex-players often judge the club by the high standards they experienced when United were winning regularly.
On why Mainoo hasn’t played more, Amorim explained that United currently use two midfielders, and Mainoo is competing with Bruno Fernandes for a similar role. Amorim said he rates Mainoo highly and noted that he has changed his mind about players before, using Casemiro as an example.
Amorim said Mainoo can also play as a holding midfielder, but still needs more time to develop that side of his game, especially when it comes to stopping counterattacks and blocking transitions.
