Amorim pushes Rashford to stay with Manchester United and show himself

Ruben Amorim has declared Marcus Rashford is not about to leave Manchester United, urging the striker to accept the “biggest challenge” of proving himself at his hometown club.

Rashford stated on Tuesday that he was “ready for a new challenge” in an interview with writer Henry Winter. This occurred after the 27-year-old was dropped for United’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday, after struggling for form over the previous two seasons.

Amorim is understood to be eager to sell Rashford in January as part of a cultural reboot he believes is vital to revive the club, with United’s management open to offers for a player earning £365,000 per week.

However, United’s head coach reiterated on Wednesday that Rashford should stay. “Of course, because this type of club requires huge talent, and he is a big talent, he only needs to perform at the best level, which is my goal. “I just want to help Marcus,” Amorim explained.

“We have here a new challenge, it’s a tough one, for me it’s the biggest challenge in football because we are in a difficult situation and I already said this is one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Amorim told the media.

“This is a very fresh and significant difficulty. I sincerely hope all of my players are prepared for this new challenge.

Amorim has yet to speak with Rashford, as Tuesday was a day off. “No. Not yet. I gave the guys the day off yesterday, so he’s our player and he’s prepared for the next game,” stated the Portuguese.

“I spoke with many players individually and during training. What I want is to take the finest aspects of Marcus Rashford as a player, so I don’t talk about the future, I just talk about the present. I want the best of each of them, and that is the crucial point for me; I just want to win and help the team improve.

“We are better with Marcus Rashford, that is straightforward, and we will try different tactics to drive Marcus to the high levels he has demonstrated in the past. And that’s it.

Amorim also downplayed the significance of Rashford’s comments for the squad. “I think they are more simple than that, they focus on their job, everyone, all of the players,” he told me.

“I was a player, and we were a little selfish, so they’re focused on their task to earn a spot on the team. I don’t believe it has had an impact on the team.”
