Ruben Amorim has warned his Manchester United players that “the storm will come” and that despite a positive start to his term, difficult times will await them as they prepare to face Arsenal.
The 39-year-old is unbeaten in his first three matches as head coach, winning twice, but the journey to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night promises to be a more difficult assignment.
“The storm will come,” Amorim stated. “We will face tremendous challenges and will be tested in several games. And I know this because I know my guys, I understand football, and I follow it.
“I understand the difference between the teams, and we are at the point where we are putting small things into the team without training, and you can see that in [last Sunday’s] game against Everton: they changed a little bit the way they were building up.

They are a really good team, and we had a lot of problems since we couldn’t change things by simply summoning the captain. We don’t have this training, so let’s focus on each game, on our performance, what we need to work on, and attempt to win.
“I understand it’s difficult to be a Manchester United coach and say these things. We want to win all the time, and we will attempt to win no matter what, but we recognize that we are at a different place than Arsenal.
We are confident in our ability to win, but we understand that we must play very well to do so.”
United will be without Luke Shaw, who is anticipated to be sidelined for several weeks due to a new injury. “I’m devastated, and it’s extremely difficult to accept reality right now,” the footballer wrote on social media Tuesday night.
Amorim will face Mikel Arteta, who took over as Arsenal manager nearly five years ago when the club was in tenth place, a situation similar to United’s, and has transformed them into title challengers.
“Sometimes coaches are just judged about the titles, but what he has been doing in Arsenal is amazing,” Amorim told reporters.
“It altered the squad. He purchased some young people who have since become major talents in our country. I aim to have the same mindset that he had in difficult circumstances because I’ve been following the Premier League for a long time.”
