Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s captain, is seeking a new contract that would put him in the top pay bracket alongside players like Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, and Jadon Sancho. However, he wants clarity on the club’s future manager and long-term vision before deciding whether to stay or seek a transfer.
While United values Fernandes as their best player, the need to generate funds and reduce the wage bill may mean considering realistic offers for him. His agent has reportedly been in discussions with potential suitors, including Bayern Munich and Barcelona, though the latter’s financial challenges make them an unlikely option.

Fernandes is set to turn 30 in September and feels undervalued in his current contract, which runs until 2026 with an option for an additional year. He wants his next deal to be the most lucrative of his career.
The Portuguese midfielder is also uncertain about the club’s direction, particularly regarding Erik ten Hag’s future as the manager. If Ten Hag is sacked, Fernandes wants to know who will replace him.
Manchester United will need to invest heavily to meet Fernandes’ ambitions of competing for the league, playing in the Champions League, and reaching cup finals. However, to make significant investments this summer, the club may need to sell players and utilize the fees and wages saved.
Along with Fernandes, Rashford, Sancho, and potentially Casemiro and Harry Maguire could attract offers. United has ringfenced Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Højlund, and Lisandro Martínez as not for sale, viewing them as the club’s future.
