FA Reviews Ratcliffe Over ‘Colonised’ Comment

The Football Association is looking into whether Manchester United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe broke football rules after saying the UK is being “colonised” by immigrants. His comments, made during a Sky News interview, sparked strong criticism from politicians, fans, and anti-discrimination groups.

Ratcliffe also mentioned incorrect population figures and spoke about the number of people receiving state support. Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on him to apologise. Ratcliffe later said he was sorry if his choice of words offended people.

Anti-racism organisations like Show Racism the Red Card and Kick It Out described his remarks as divisive and harmful. The Manchester United Muslim Supporters Club also criticised the comments, saying the club stands for diversity and unity.

The FA’s chief executive, Mark Bullingham, confirmed that the matter is being reviewed by their legal and regulation team. It is not yet clear if a formal investigation will follow.

Ratcliffe, who bought a minority stake in Manchester United in 2023, has already faced criticism from fans over football decisions at the club. Now, his public remarks have added to the pressure.
