Manchester United keeps Erik ten Hag till at least the end of the current campaign

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has expressed his admiration for the Dutch manager, Erik ten Hag, and has decided to keep him in charge of Manchester United until the end of the current campaign.

Ten Hag was under a lot of pressure going into Sunday’s 4-3 FA Cup quarterfinal victory over Liverpool since it was United’s final opportunity to win a trophy this season.

If we win, the season will at least be extended until the weekend of the Cup semifinals.

Ten Hag should be given until the end of the term before any long-term decision is made regarding his future, according to Ratcliffe, who oversees the club’s football operations, and his key lieutenant, Sir Dave Brailsford.

This is because the Premier League season ends in a month and United could advance to a second consecutive Cup final if they defeat Coventry at Wembley.

Ratcliffe and Brailsford want to give Ten Hag as much influence as possible, so he is involved in conversations about the team and preparations for the summer transfer window.

Ratcliffe is conscious that finding a replacement, should he want to do so, will be difficult, even if Ten Hag’s contract has one year left in it after the close season.

As for Gareth Southgate, the Guardian has been informed that while Ratcliffe and Brailsford see the England manager as one of the best, he is just one of many in the game who hold this distinction.
