Amorim Fails Man United

Ruben Amorim Unfazed by Manchester United’s Struggles

Manchester United’s recent 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace marked their seventh loss in 13 Premier League games under head coach Ruben Amorim, leaving the Red Devils languishing in 13th place with a -6 goal difference.

Despite the dismal run, Amorim remains unfazed about his job security, confident in the backing of co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

He revealed that before accepting the managerial role in October, he had candid discussions with the board about the potential challenges of taking over mid-season.

“I explained all the risks. Everything that has happened I explained to the board [before taking over], and they said the same thing: ‘We need to start now,'” Amorim stated.

One of the more controversial decisions during his tenure has been the loan of Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa. Amorim admitted that he couldn’t align Rashford with his footballing philosophy, leading to the forward’s six-week omission from the squad before his departure.

“I couldn’t put Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it,” Amorim explained. He acknowledged that players might thrive under different managers and wished Rashford and Villa’s manager, Unai Emery, the best.

This move has raised eyebrows, especially if Rashford finds form at Villa Park. However, Amorim stands by his decision, emphasizing that such choices are part and parcel of football management.

He also took responsibility for other loan decisions, including those of Tyrell Malacia and Antony, highlighting his commitment to molding the squad to his vision.

Injuries have further compounded United’s woes, with key defender Lisandro Martínez suffering a cruciate ligament injury, ruling him out until next season. Amorim acknowledged the setback but remains focused on the challenges ahead.

As the season progresses, the pressure mounts on Amorim to turn things around. While he remains confident in the board’s support, the unforgiving nature of football means that only results will determine his future at Old Trafford.

For now, Amorim is focused on instilling his philosophy and reversing United’s fortunes, fully aware that the beautiful game waits for no one.
