Ange Postecoglou is concentrating on winning at Tottenham rather than going back to international manager after being linked to England.
Coaches such as Australian Postecoglou, Lee Carsley, Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino, Júrgen Klopp, and Thomas Tuchel are reportedly being considered.
The FA has tracked 58-year-old Postecoglou for years, with technical director John McDermott admiring his successful and attractive attacking style with Australia, Yokohama F. Marinos, Celtic, and now Spurs, according to the Daily Telegraph.
After opening their pre-season with a 5-1 win against Hearts, Postecoglou said he was focused on preparing Spurs for the Premier League. In his first season as Spurs manager, Postecoglou finished sixth in the Premier League.
“I am at the start of pre-season and am the Tottenham manager, so I have got nothing else [on my mind] but trying to bring success to this football club,” Postecoglou told Sky Sports News. “
Until then, I shouldn’t think about anything else. I napped this afternoon, so I don’t understand the speculation.
Greek-born Postecoglou led the Socceroos from 2013 to 2017 and won the 2015 Asian Cup. After qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, he resigned as Socceroos manager a week later and managed Yokohama F. Marinos until joining Celtic in 2021.
I enjoyed my time with the Socceroos, Postecoglou remarked when asked if he would return to international football. It was four fantastic years.
We won the Asian Cup and qualified for the World Cup, but there’s always a natural finish, and I believed mine was there. I enjoyed coaching the national team. The future who knows? I was in Japan five years ago and now play in the Premier League.”
If a full-time manager is not found before September 7, England will play the Republic of Ireland in the Nations League. An interim manager will be appointed then.
