Arne Slot believes Nottingham Forest can challenge Liverpool for the crown

After Diogo Jota headed in an equaliser with his first touch in an enthralling draw, Arne Slot reiterated his conviction that Nottingham Forest are Premier League title challengers.

Slot predicts Forest will challenge Liverpool for the title if key players stay healthy. Liverpool are six points ahead of Forest, up to second, with a game in hand over Nuno Espírito Santo’s team.

Forest is the only team to beat Liverpool in the league this season, at Anfield in September. Slot replied, “I don’t think they’re up there because of luck” when asked about Forest’s title chances.

Every team finds it difficult to play against them. Manchester United and City have played us twice, so they’ve had some tough road games.

It proves they can compete at the top of the league. I think most of their players have been available all season, and their coaching staff is good at keeping the same lineup.

A difficult squad to play against, I see no reason for them to drop a lot of points provided they can keep the same personnel on the pitch.”

Liverpool replaced Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konaté with left-back Kostas Tsimikas and Jota midway through the second half, and they scored promptly at a corner to cancel out Chris Wood’s first-half goal.

Slot admitted he was pleased with his super-sub decision.

“We brought an attacker [Jota] in for a defender [Konaté] to play even more attacking football because we needed goals,” he stated. I didn’t think about scoring from a set piece when I brought them in. But Jota can score and Kostas is superb at set pieces.”

Jota’s header negated Wood’s 13th goal of the season, a first-time finish after latching onto Anthony Elanga’s ball. Liverpool scored the first goal in six outings for Forest, the second-worst Premier League defense.

Wood: “The way we’ve conceded, we’re usually a lot better than that. The manner we yielded tastes sour. The team performed well all season. We had to stand and count. It demonstrates our progress, but we need to improve to win games.”

Forest’s players, who have won six of their last seven league matches, haven’t considered a title challenge, the striker said. We’re just talking about improving every week, month, and seeing where it takes us.”
