Chelsea to trade Sterling for Sancho

Chelsea to trade Sterling for Sancho?

Chelsea’s transfer appetite remains unquenched. Jadon Sancho is apparently their target. Enzo Maresca prefers non-Raheem Sterling wingers. Blues have a large roster, but the recruitment team has a clever one-in-one-out philosophy that might lead to a Sterling-Manchester United part-exchange.

Chelsea want a striker, not just a winger. The alternative to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen’s high price and £500,000-per-week wage demands is Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, although after scoring six against Wolves on Sunday, it may be best to not buy a striker. Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli wants Osimhen.

Crystal Palace have joined the fight to recruit Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah, who was considered for Nottingham Forest last week. Forest talks had advanced, but the deal collapsed. Nketiah, who might cost £30m, may be interested in staying in London.

Forest has renewed its interest in Feyenoord’s Santiago Giménez after this setback. Last week, the Dutch club rejected an initial bid, but Nuno Espírito Santo considers Giménez the right candidate for further firepower.

Manchester City are considering Orri Oskarsson, a teenage striker from Copenhagen, as an understudy for Erling Haaland. They may not bid for the €20m-rated Icelandic international this week, but they may in the future.

Matheus Nunes may leave City at the Etihad Stadium. Since Ilkay Gündogan returned, the Portuguese international has fallen down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order and may go.

He underperformed in his debut season at City after joining from Wolves, but Liverpool could sign him.

At the weekend, Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow bid a heartfelt farewell to fans following their 1-1 draw with Sparta Rotterdam. He is moving to Southampton.
