Ollie Watkins

Manchester United Eye Watkins, But Villa Play Hardball

Manchester United’s hunt for a top-tier striker continues and this time, their sights are firmly set on Ollie Watkins. But as always in football, nothing comes easy.

Aston Villa have slapped a hefty £60 million price tag on their star man, and United are simply not biting at that valuation.

Ruben Amorim is desperate to add firepower up front, especially after a frustrating season from both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirzkee. Watkins, who’s been consistently brilliant for Villa, would bring proven Premier League quality to Old Trafford.

But with Villa in a strong position Watkins is tied down until 2028 it’s going to take an eye-watering offer to even get them to the table.

Interestingly, Arsenal pushed hard for Watkins back in January, offering around £40 – 45 million, the same figure United now consider fair. Villa, however, didn’t budge then, and there’s no indication they’ll budge now.

With the new season just weeks away, time is running out. United have spent over £130 million already on Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, and unless they can shift some of their out-of-favour players like Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, or Tyrell Malacia, another big-money move may not be feasible.

An alternative? RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. Seven years younger than Watkins, 13 Bundesliga goals last season, and a raw talent with a sky-high ceiling.

But Leipzig reportedly want close to £90 million. Sesko’s also on Newcastle’s radar as they monitor Alexander Isak’s future.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson once a target is no longer in United’s plans.
