What a night in the Twin Cities! Allianz Field was electric as Minnesota United dismantled Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami 4-1 Messi’s worst loss since arriving in the States. But it wasn’t just the result that had fans buzzing; it was the aftermath.
Minnesota, riding high under the impressive Eric Ramsay yes, the 33-year-old genius poached from Manchester United took their shot on social media.
A cheeky post dubbed Miami the “Pink Phony Club,” a riff on Chappell Roan’s Pink Pony Club, poking fun at Miami’s pastel kit and sky-high hype. And they didn’t stop there. A brutal banner read: “History over Hype, Culture over Cash.” Shots fired.
But Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham wasn’t having it. The legend himself clapped back in the comments: “Show a little respect mnufc, be elegant in triumph.”
And when Minnesota flexed their MLS roots from 2017 over Miami’s 2020 debut, Becks fired again: “Respect over everything” pink heart emoji and all.
Let’s not forget Miami were the MLS kings last regular season and made it to the Champions Cup semis this year.
But Minnesota are flying under Ramsay. They’re fierce, disciplined, and bold just like their manager. And yes, he’s already being linked with jobs back in England.
Next up: Minnesota head to Houston on Wednesday. Miami? Off to San Jose. And oh don’t sleep on the Club World Cup this summer. Mascherano and Messi aren’t done just yet.
Football in the U.S. has never felt more alive.
