Manchester United are on the warpath and Ruben Amorim is stoking the flames. After obliterating Athletic Bilbao 7-1 on aggregate, United are now one game away from glory, with Tottenham waiting under the lights at San Mamés.
But it’s not just the final that’s causing sparks it’s what’s happening behind the scenes. Amorim expects a full-blown battle in training as players fight tooth and nail for a spot in the starting XI.
“They will fight for the places,” he said. “They will be ready, excited.” And when you’ve got Mason Mount scoring twice off the bench, Amad Diallo turning defenders inside out, and Rasmus Højlund bulldozing his way through defences, you know the intensity is real.
Mount, back from a brutal hamstring layoff, looked like he’d never been gone. Diallo, returning from a nasty ankle injury, delivered pure electricity.
And with Matthijs de Ligt likely to return post-West Ham, United are looking as close to full strength as they’ve been all season. As Amorim backed the club’s young guns to lead the charge, his belief in the squad’s depth has never been clearer.
Training may be lighter physically, but mentally? It’s war. Amorim won’t ease up “I don’t have that in me,” he said though he’s smart enough to protect his key men. Bruno’s engine won’t stop, but Maguire might be wrapped in cotton wool for the Chelsea clash, just days before the final.
This isn’t just a cup final. This is Amorim’s United throwing everything at the prize. A team reborn. A manager unshaken. And a fight for the shirt that’s got every Red dreaming again.
