Jadon Sancho, the highly touted forward for Manchester United, has cast doubt on his future with the club by taking to social media to express his dissatisfaction with Manager Erik ten Hag’s decision to omit him from the squad in their recent 3-1 loss to Arsenal. Sancho wrote in a tweet that he felt Ten Hag had misrepresented the reasons for his exclusion from the matchday squad.
Sancho’s absence came as a shock, given he had featured as a substitute in each of United’s opening three matches this season. Ten Hag’s decision to include debutant Rasmus Højlund, Alejandro Garnacho, and the relatively untested Facundo Pellistri on the bench, while leaving out Sancho, raised questions. The manager later explained that Sancho had been dropped due to “his performances in training.”
In his tweet on X (formerly Twitter), Sancho wrote, “Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that [are] completely untrue. I have conducted myself in training very well this week.”There may be other reasons behind this situation that I won’t discuss; for too long now, I have been made a scapegoat!”
Sancho explained, “All I want is to play football with joy and contribute positively to my team. I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff; I play with fantastic players and [I’m] grateful to do so, which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!”
Erik ten Hag, addressing the situation after Manchester United’s defeat to Arsenal, refuted any notion that Sancho had been left out of the squad for disciplinary reasons. He explained that Sancho had not met the required standard in recent training sessions, stating, “You have to reach a level every day at Manchester United, and we can make choices in the front line. So for this game, he was not selected.”
Jadon Sancho made his Manchester United debut with an eye-catching PS73 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund, but has struggled to consistently find his form since arriving. England national team coach Ten Hag has previously granted Sancho a three-month break to address both physical and mental issues before emphasizing greater consistency at top level during pre-season.
As speculation regarding Sancho’s future at Manchester United intensifies, the situation remains fluid. The football world will be watching closely to see how this controversy unfolds and whether it will impact the talented young forward’s future with the club.
